Las Vegas visit - May 2010

What a great weekend.  We went to Vegas to visit my daughter and her husband after a hardware convention they had attended.  On Saturday we decided to visit the Valley of Fire State Park, about 50 miles from the "strip."  What a perfect day.  If you haven't seen this area, it is worth the trip.  It is a rock lover’s utopia.  The red rocks and formations are incredible.  There are many arches and shapes that test your imagination.  The pictures will not give a true representation of the beauty of the area, but they do show some of the beauty.

Then on Sunday we decided to go out to Lake Mead.  It had been about 20 years since I was there and I knew that the lake had dropped a lot, but I could not even imaging how low it was.  When I was there before. they were running off the excess water in the overflows in Hover dam.  The day we were there it was officially 125 feet below that level.  With the surface of the lake as big as it is, that is a lot of water.  The shore showed the old water level and many of the little islands that had been under water earlier were now visible.  Enjoy the pictures.
