            Aftershock!

Dave loves a challenge

When venturing into the realm of  Johnson Valley's Hardcore Heaven, it's best to start out on one of the tamer runs to get a feel for the place. Aftershock, rated at a mild(?) 4+ is a perfect appetizer. If you have trouble on this trail, the remainder of your visit may be a bit humbling. Many self-proclaimed "expert" 4wheelers, driving what most would consider dream-vehicles, spend the day in utter frustration on Aftershock, only to find out that it's the easiest run in the area!
Formerly known as Awesome Canyon, the trail was appropriately renamed after the 1992 Landers Earthquake rearranged the trail to the tune of 7.6 on the rock rollin' Richter scale. Those of you that scour the 4xmags have probably seen pics of  Aftershock's most famous obstacle, Depreciation Knob. This rock fall is a premier spot for spectator-wheelin' and is within easy walking distance of the end of the trail. While only about 30 yards in length, DK is a veritable smorgasbord of axle twistin', diff-grabbin', rocker panel smashin', sidewall rippin' boulders.
We ran this trail with a large group of competent enthusiasts at the Victor Valley Four-wheeler's Rocktoberfest and took lots of pics of our own, so sit back and enjoy!
